Recreational Sales of Marijuana

The voters of Massachusetts have made it clear that the time has come to legalize and regulate the sale of cannabis. ATG has always been a leading advocate for expanding access to cannabis medicines to registered patients and that focus will not change. We will work to ensure, that alongside all adults 21 and over, patient access to safe, regulated cannabis therapies remains a priority in Massachusetts.

It will be some time before recreational cannabis sales commence in Massachusetts. The state is required to create a Cannabis Control Commission first, which will develop a set of regulations for the new program as a first step. If approved by the state legislature, the law requires that recreational sales will commence beginning January 2018. In the meantime, the medical program remains unchanged. Patients are still required to possess a doctor certification and to be registered with the Department of Public Health in order to visit a dispensary.
